You may be panicking after hearing rumors that the delicious bookmarking site will be shutting down. In fact, it turns out that the site may be parting ways with Yahoo and continuing to offer their services elsewhere.
Even so, I noticed many of my followers on Twitter and elsewhere expressing distress at the news of a possible loss of this site and its data. And for good reason—many of us have become extremely reliant on delicious and tend to use it instead of storing bookmarks using our web browsers.
I wanted to share my bookmarking system for those of you who are still worried about losing your bookmarks or simply want a back up system to preserve your bookmarks housed in the Cloud in the event of catastrophic data loss (as occurred a few years back when the Magnolia bookmarking site crashed).
I use Diigo as my primary bookmarking service. You can import your delicious bookmarks into Diigo and then save every subsequent site that you bookmark through Diigo on both Diigo and delicious. That way, your bookmarks are archived at two separate bookmarking sites with just one click.
In addition to providing bookmarking in the Cloud, Diigo also allows you to: 1) annotate and highlight web pages and save the altered version 2) share your bookmarks on social networks and 3) create collaboration groups on the site. You can learn more and watch explanatory videos here.
